Internet search giant Google is set to roll out new features to the Google Photos app on iOS bringing a host of editing features it offers Android users already. Google’s community manager in a Photos helps forum post announced that “smart and easy-to-use features” are set to be rolled out to iOS users.
Google is bringing new photo and video editing features to the Google Photos app for iOS. The update was announced by Google on Monday, saying that the advanced photo and video editing functions that were only there on premium Android phones are now coming to Apple’s iOS. The features include machine learning tools that will suggest edits to be made on a photo like Enhance and Colour Pop. Google says that more edit suggestions will come to the iOS app in the future for additional types of images. Apart from images, the new video editor is also coming to the iOS Google Photos app.
The video editing tools will also bring a host of new features like trimming, stabilizing, cropping, and adjusting various attributes like contrast, highlights, and more. The new features reach iPhones right on time as Apple recently announced the new capabilities on Apple Photos in iOS 15 during the WWDC 2021 keynote on Monday.
The Google Photos update should be rolling out to iOS devices now, so iPhone users can be on the lookout. Some photo editing features on Android require a Google One subscription, and will likely be the case on iOS as well.
Google Photos debuted its new photo editor for Android in October last year and brought the advanced video editor to Android phones in April 2021. The video editor allows users to crop, rotate videos and add filters, change brightness/contrast, and a lot more.
How do I transfer photos from iPhone to Google Photos?
Google Photo is more than a normal gallery app as it offers cloud storage for Photos and Videos. In addition to that, it also provides unlimited cloud storage for users who wish to upload their multimedia content in high quality.
Almost all android smartphone come with Google
Photos app pre-installed on the smartphone. However, if you are an iPhone user, you much be aware that iCloud offers a limited amount of cloud storage space. That’s where Google Photos comes in handy by allowing users to move all the photos taken on an iPhone and here’s how to do it.
Before starting with the steps, first head to Apple App Store and download the Google photos app on your smartphone.
Now. assuming you have downloaded the google photos app
1. Open the Google Photos app on your iPhone
2. Head to setting and enable Back up and sync toggle
3. Enter Google Account if asked
To move photos and videos from iPhone to Google photos, open the app and tap on the three-dot from the top right corner, and tap on the setting. Here you’ll need to turn on the Backup sync feature to transfer all your photos and videos.
After this, login into Google photos using Google Account. Do note that the app may ask to log in at the time of setting the app. Once logged in, tap on Backup mode and choose the option High Quality to get unlimited storage space.
If you are looking to sync all your photos and videos including the one saved via third-party apps like Instagram, Whatsapp, etc leave the rest of the setting as it is, In case you just want to save photos and videos that were taken using a photo camera. tap on the Backup folder and closed the folders you want to sync.
Now, head back to the Google photos home page and wait for the app to sync your data. Also, make sure to connect your phone with Wi-Fi to save your data or any other additional data charges.
How to use Google Photos to back up your iPhone photos
It’s easy to get free protection from losing all your photos if your phone gets lost, stolen, or broken and with Google Photos.
There’s a good chance you are already backing up your photos and video from your iPhone through iCloud, Google Photos, or another service and that’s great, but I’m also sure you probably have a parent or sibling that isn’t, especially if they’ve already filled up their free allotted iCloud storage. It’s easy with Google Photos to get free protection from losing all your photos if your phone gets lost, stolen, or broken.
How to install Google Photos
1. Go to the app store and download Google Photos. Once that’s finished, go ahead and open it.
2. You’ll need to allow Google Photos to access all your Photos.
3. It’s your choice whether you want notifications. I personally don’t allow them to avoid distractions.
4. Now you’ll have the options to Back Up and Sync, which is precisely what you want to do, and what image quality to save at.
- If you want free unlimited photos and video storage, It will need to compress the files. Google’s compression quality is quite good, so you really won’t be missing much.
- You could save original quality but then you’d hit the free storage limit and you’d end up in the same boat as you were with iCloud.
5. You can choose to use cellular data to back up if there’s no Wi-Fi. This depends on your data plan and the number of photos and videos you take. If your plan has a limited data cap, or if you’re just using Google Photos as a free backup and you’re unlikely to touch it often, then leave this off.
6. Login with your Google account. If you don’t have one, you’ll need to create one.

Using Google Photos
It will save all the photos you take on the iPhone, but if you delete something from the Apple Photos app, it won’t necessarily delete it from Google Photos. However, if you try to delete an image from the Google Photos app, it will ask if you want to remove it from the phone as well.
The background upload isn’t perfect and you may occasionally want to open up the app to force a backup. With these settings though, I had a good backup experience if the phone was both on Wi-Fi and plugged in charging.
Finally, if you edit the photo in the Apple Photos app, It will treat that edit as a new image and save it in addition to the unedited one.
With all that said, you should be able to rest a little bit easier knowing that the only priceless things on your iPhone are now a little bit safer.
