Fans of the TV show Game of Thrones will have to wait quite a bit longer for the next season of the show. Game of Thrones season 7 finished airing in 2017 and HBO has now announced that the show will not continue in 2018. Season 8 will be Game of Thrones final season and its six episodes will air in 2019.
This bit of information comes straight from the horse’s mouth and it’s not going to make fans happy. In its blog post,
HBO wrote, “The epic fantasy series Game of Thrones will return for its six-episode, eighth and final season in 2019.”
In case you’re interested about the people behind the camera, you’ll see a lot of familiar names. The directors for the new season will be David Benioff and D. B. Weiss, David Nutter, and Miguel Sapochnik. HBO said the final season will be written by David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, Bryan Cogman, and Dave Hill. George R.R. Martin, the author of A Song of Ice and Fire series, upon which the show is based, is a co-executive producer on the show.
Game of Thrones Season 8 is expected to take the show to its conclusion.
If we were to make an educated guess, we’d say that Game of Thrones season 8 will begin airing around April 2019, returning to HBO’s original airing schedule for the show. So what’s HBO doing in the meantime? Focusing on great TV shows such as The Deuce, The Leftovers, and Big Little Lies, among others. Game of Thrones Season 7’s delayed airing means that it wasn’t in contention for the Emmy Awards, given to the best TV shows in the US, in 2017.
